A Film Diary

+ high-res version

Watched: 3 October

An entertainingly naff John Carpenter movie from the early 1980s that has somehow managed to achieve cult status (I suspect the quality of and love for the director’s other work made during the era has had a knock-on effect); also a Stephen King adaptation. It’s about a car called Christine that kills people, so there are laughs to be had when you’re watching it: not only from the choice of 1950s hits Christine plays on the radio to her next victims, but also from seeing actors trying to keep straight faces while their characters discuss the self-repairing vehicle’s homicidal tendencies. Harry Dean Stanton turns up as a detective, because of course he does. (***½)
